The growing concern with the World Water availability has required all of us a new awareness of the use of this natural resource.

Drinking water found in nature is essential for life on our planet. However, this richness has become increasingly scarce. It is known that 97.50% of global water availability are contained in the oceans (saltwater), unfit for human consumption, unless you undergo a desalination process, which requires a very high investment and its result is unsatisfactory for consumption. Soon after, we have, 2.493% is in polar regions or groundwater (aquifers), difficult to use. Only 0.007% of available water is fit for human consumption, and is in rivers, lakes and swamps, and that unfortunately has been polluted incessantly by biological and chemical agents.

The forecast for the coming years is an even greater increase in consumption due to demand and the sharp and disorderly population growth, especially in large urban centers, this factor would lead to an 50% increase in diseases caused by polluted water consumption, currently 3.575 million people worldwide die each year from diseases caused by water. The outlook for this century indicate a water scarcity scenario by 2050 (Veja Magazine (Brazil) Dec / 98):

Pollution in our drinking water

The main pollutants of freshwater are chemical, biological and physical materials that degrade water quality, resulting in a greater concern about the safety of drinking water. This reason has led to an explosive growth in the world in the sale of bottled water and filtering devices connected to the public water supply. However, it is very difficult to find a system that actually remove all parasites, viruses, bacteria, pesticides and heavy metals contained in the water supplied to the population.

Drinking water normally provided by public means of some cities can be potentially fatal to people with weakened immune systems. children, pregnant women and the elderly are at greater risk.
